Innovation in Social Giving

Challenge

Portable forms had already increased donations. The company needed new ways to motivate giving. A competitor had fundraising teams, and we needed feature parity.

Approach

I recalled how sharing personal stories had motivated content authorship at a prior startup. I suggested that we let donors tell others why they give. At the very moment someone was motivated to give money, provide ways for them to enlist others. This began with a set of social links, and grew to become personalized appeals for giving.

Single Page Application: Advocate Center

Single Page Application: Advocate Center

The advocate center empowers donors to personalize and promote their fundraising. In its profile editor, the donor can: 1. Author personal statement about a cause 2. Upload photos and video 3. Invite others to give and join teams 4. Edit personal profile at any time

Personalization Components

Where the advocate center edits input, Personalization Components allow easy display. Components deliver a personal appeal for support, directly in the giving context. Using any page composition, these display: - Generic Form - Personal Photo or Video - Statement - Fundraising goal and progress A special identifier activates personal components. Donors have the option to join a team.

The profile editor is a single page application enhanced with KnockoutJS modelling. Components, like this one for managing team rosters, were written in an encapsulated, declarative style.
